Boosting your immunity is the best defense you have against contracting illnesses. COVID numbers may be declining, but that doesn’t mean you should stop helping your immune system. Here are some of our favorite tips on how to stay healthy this spring going into summer.
Hand washing: This is a habit that you should never break. Make sure you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. Clean under your fingernails and in between your fingers!
Hand sanitizer: Soap and water are not always available, so turn to hand sanitizer in those moments. Note: avoid any products containing triclosan, a known hormone-disrupting chemical.
Keep Surfaces Clean: Disinfect your surfaces frequently. Some everyday items that are often forgotten but get the dirtiest are remote controls, cell phones, doorknobs, faucet handles, light switches, and keyboards.
We’ve tackled cleanliness; now, let’s dive into some lifestyle choices that can boost your immunity.
Sleep: Sleep plays an essential role in keeping our immune system healthy. Make sure you have a good bedtime routine. Limit screentime before bed. Make sure you’re in a nice quiet, dark space. You may even want to turn your thermostat down a few degrees.
Stress Reduction: Stress can cause inflammation which can, in turn, cause illness. Try to identify things that trigger a stress reaction and avoid them. If those triggers can not be avoided, try practicing mindfulness and breathing techniques.
Eat a healthy diet: Research has shown that brightly colored vegetables and fruits boost your immunity. Aim for ten servings a day.
Many supplements can help with immunity and infection, but you have to make sure you take the right ones for you. Contact us for a consultation to set up your immunity-boosting plan!
