Healthy & Attainable New Year’s Resolutions
1. Make a New Recipe Every Week
Everyone adds “eat healthier” to their list of resolutions each year, but this can often lead to unhealthy habits like restricting, crash dieting, and binging. Instead of eliminating foods from your diet, try adding new foods. Make a point to try out a new healthy recipe one night a week. If you discover a recipe you end up loving, add it to your routine!
2. Pick Up a New Hobby
So many of us get so bogged down by our day-to-day work that we forget to do things we enjoy. Do you find yourself coming home after a long day of work and spending your evening scrolling on your phone? Challenge yourself to try a new activity that either stimulates your mind, relaxes you, or both!
Hobbies to try:
- Scrapbooking
- Crossword or Sudoku puzzles
- Photography
- Antiquing
- Gardening or horticulture
- Going to the movies
3. Find a Form of Exercise That You Love
A large part of the reason it’s so hard to stick to working out regularly is that we often think of it as a chore. Instead, try to find at least one form of exercise that really makes you feel good. When you think of movement as something to look forward to, you are more likely to do it consistently!
Physical activity to try:
- Biking
- Swimming
- Pickleball or badminton
- Pilates
- Boxing
- Group workout classes
4. Try Dry January
There is a multitude of reasons why you might benefit from limiting your alcohol intake. From improved sleep, reduced stress, better digestion, and overall more energy, the benefits of Dry January are really endless. If you don’t want to cut it out completely, try limiting it to the weekends or special events.
5. Meditate
Mental health is just as important as physical health–you can’t have a healthy body without a healthy mind! Take some time each day to calm your mind. Meditation looks different to everyone–it can mean listening to guided meditations, taking a silent walk, immersing yourself in nature, or simply sitting with yourself and reflecting on the day. Just a few minutes in the morning or right before bed can do a lot to calm your mind and set you up for success.
